Definition

A calendar year that contains an additional day (February 29th) to keep the calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year.

Earth takes ~365.24 days to orbit the sun. Rule: Years divisible by 4 are leap years, UNLESS they are divisible by 100 but NOT by 400.
